SWITZERLAND: INDIVIDUAL WEIGHING SYSTEM FOR CHARGING BY WEIGHT

Issue:

  • Costs of waste management are too high
  • Costs linked to waste management are not covered evenly for citizens

Solution:

Implementation of the federal 'polluterpays' principle thanks to the introduction of the weight charge using smart containers equipped with a system of individual weighing.

Results:

The municipalities of Val-de-Travers (NE), Oron (VD), Buchs (SG) and many others have:

  • reduced household waste by approximately 60%
  • reduced collection and incineration costs
  • increased the value of recyclable waste due to improved separation of waste
  • improved satisfaction among citizens

SWITZERLAND: ACCESS CONTROL

Issue:

  • The infrastructure for waste collection is used by unauthorised persons
  • The collection points or landfills are not managed in the best possible way

Solution:

  • Implementation of a new access control

Results:

Municipalities such as Mont-sur-Rolle, Blonay and many others have:

  • optimised management of waste or collection points
  • improved service to users with appropriate timetables
  • improved accessibility with authorisation by user types

SMART CITY DAYS 2014, 2015 AND 2016

Over time, new habits and technologies tremendously impact the business model of a company; what about their impact on a city? Smart City’s vision is to combine cities’ infrastructure, modern technologies and new habits of sharing information through innovative models. That convergence allows for greater efficiency in the city and for companies, both benefitting the well-being of citizens. However, can this innovation be applied on old principles? What benefit and return on investment can be expected for the city?

The Smart City Day 2014, 2015 and 2016 events have gathered the key actors of Smart City in Switzerland and abroad, with a view to sharing pragmatic solutions and concrete experiences.

ROLL-OUT OF OPTICAL FIBER

Numerous municipalities are wondering about the relevance of rolling out optical fibre on their territory.

What are the real investment and costs?
What services to offer?
With what partners?
How to face competition?

Innobridge has supported many municipalities, in gaining the proper answer to those vital questions, in presenting various scenarios, proposing neutral recommendations on the different options and in representing them at negotiations with all the stakeholders.

LAMPADAIRES INTELLIGENTS

City centre and Zurich main station

Situation:
The city of Zurich would like to prioritize the access routes to the main station as well as the various means of transport used to optimize the redesign of these axes and to improve access to the station. The focus was on the identification of the most important routes leading from and to the Zurich main station used by the inhabitants to optimize them accordingly.

What has been done:
Detection of movement patterns and traffic flows (pedestrians, cyclists, trams buses, cars) as well as their behaviour around the city centre and within the main railway station. Furthermore, during 4 months it has been determined by which means of transport people travelled to and from the main station. This was achieved through the BlueScan technology and SwissKameras.

Results :
Detection ...

  • of the number of people with relation to the main station including access routes
  • of the used means of transport (on foot, bicycle, tram, bus, car)
  • of origin and destination traffic of the various zones in the city centre and within the main station
  • of traffic flows (matrix) and the means of transport at various points (e.g., crossroads)
  • of dwell times
  • of the distribution of traffic volumes for different days of the week, weekends, holidays, weather dependencies, etc.
